FOOD
ACROSS CULTURES
In 1989, delegates
from 15 countries signed the manifesto written by the Italian founding members,
including Folco Portinari and Carlo Petrini, the slow food international
movement began.
The
most important ideas expressed in the manifesto are:
-The 20 century, the century of
industrial civilization, took the machine as its life model. - We are
slaves of speed: fast life forces us to eat fast foods.
- In the
name of productivity, fast life has
changed our way of being and threatens our environment and landscapes.
-Slow
food is now the only answer.
The key
words of the Slow Food Movement are GOOD (the
food we eat should be good), CLEAN (the
food should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment) and FAIR (food producers should receive a fair
compensation).
The mission of the Slow Food Foundation is to defend the world’s
heritage of agricultural biodiversity and gastronomic traditions.
